We recently have seen a ton of research, reviews and discussions about the effects of HMB, especially when stacked with Vitamin D3.  The first time seeing or hearing about HMB was a video by Tony Horton, from P90X fame, about his recent health struggles, and how he found HMB was able to allow him to retain and build muscle much better than any other supplement he tried.  Here is a link to that video:

Since watching the video, many of us in the ESL team have started using HMB stacked with Vitamin D3, with some really surprising results. The Tony Horton version is good, but very expensive.  We found a version on Amazon at a much cheaper price, and it works just as good, the dosage is the same.

When looking at HMB, or Hydroxy-methylbutyrate, it is a metabolite of the amino acid leucine that has been suggested to have a number of potential benefits when used as a dietary supplement. These potential benefits include improving muscle strength and endurance, reducing muscle damage and inflammation, and aiding in weight loss.

Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is a form of vitamin D that is synthesized in the skin following exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation from the sun. It is also found in certain foods, such as fatty fish, eggs, and fortified foods. Vitamin D is important for maintaining strong bones and teeth, as well as supporting immune system function.

There is some evidence to suggest that HMB may be effective in increasing muscle strength and endurance, particularly in older individuals or those who are new to exercise. It is also important to note that vitamin D3 is the form of vitamin D that is synthesized in the skin following exposure to UVB radiation from the sun, and is generally considered the most biologically active form of vitamin D. Some studies have suggested that vitamin D3 may be more effective at raising vitamin D levels in the body compared to other forms of vitamin D, such as vitamin D2. A paper was published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NIH) discussing the potential long-term affects of stacking HMB with Vitamin D3.  Here is a link to the study.  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32857128/   The results of the study were quite stunning, finding that the combined dosage of HMB with Vitamin D3 found and demonstrated the potential of HMB and vitamin D3 supplementation to enhance muscle strength and physical functionality in older adults, even in individuals not engaged in an exercise training program.

In summary, HMB may have some potential benefits for improving muscle strength and endurance, and may also aid in weight loss. More research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms behind these effects and to determine the optimal dosage and duration of use for HMB.
