10 Workouts to Lose Weight Quickly

Do you want to lose weight quickly, and keep the weight off for swimsuit season? Hanging out at the gym or doing a home workout may not be enough to help you drop those pounds in record time. For those who are looking to shed the pounds fast (and safely), here are 10 of the best workouts to make your weight loss possible–as well as quick.

1. Step Aerobics

This may sound silly, but the truth is that you can burn up to 800 calories per hour doing this workout. What makes it even better for weight loss is that it’s not just cardio exercise, but you’re engaging your leg muscles–the largest muscles in your body, and the ones that consume the most energy.

2. Hill Sprints

Want to lose weight like a pro football player? Footballers sprint up hills as fast as they can, and slowly jog back down – only to sprint back up again. Do this for at least 30 minutes a day, and you can easily burn 500 calories. Plus, it’s High Intensity Interval Training, so it engages your muscles, burns fat, and helps you sweat! Personally, this is the hardest one for me.  Running is definitely not my strong suit.

3. Cycling

Interestingly enough, you can burn up to 1,000 calories per hour if you push the pace, though most people burn closer to 500 calories per hour thanks to their slower speed. Pedal as hard as you can, and you’ll burn a good deal of fat.

4. Strength Training

Did you know that weightlifting can burn as many as 1,000 calories in an hour? As long as you keep your heart rate above 125 BPM as you lift your weights, you’ll burn fat while you shred those muscles.  This is my favorite.  However, I perform more of a plyo/strength training routine that I have used from P90X and the other BeachBody workouts to increase the burn rate over just lifting.

5. Boxing

If you’ve never stepped into a boxing ring or pounded on a heavy bag, you have no idea how intense boxing training can be. In a single hour or so of training, you’ll burn at least 800 calories.

6. Swimming

You’d be amazed by how effective swimming is at burning calories. If you swim steadily for an hour at a decent pace (medium-speed crawl or breast stroke), you can burn up to 800 calories. It’s a total body workout that will leave you exhausted.

7. Rowing

Whether you row out on the water or in the gym, rowing is a full-body workout that can burn up to 600 calories per hour. You’ll get great leg, back and arm muscles, and you’ll lose weight quickly too.

8. Racquetball

Not only is racquetball a fun sport, but it’s an incredibly intense one as well. If you can keep up with the fast pace of the game, you’ll burn up to 800 calories in an hour. Just be ready to bounce off those walls!

9. Dancing

For those who want to lose weight in a fun way, dancing is the way to go! You can shake those hips, dazzle your friends, and burn as much as 800 calories in an hour of serious training. Whether you do hip hop, jazz, tap, or fast-paced Latin dancing, it’s a workout you’ll love.

10. Martial Arts

Doing the more active martial arts will help you burn up to 800 calories per hour, especially if you really get in there and fight! It’s a fun way to sweat off those pounds, and you may even learn a thing or two about self-defense in the process.
